FLANAGAN HALL
Originally constructed in the early 1930s as a passenger and freight terminal on the Cape Cod Canal, the building later became an important part of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy campus after the Academy relocated to Buzzards Bay.
Following decades of use and significant structural deterioration, the historic building underwent stabilization and a major renovation. Keenan + Kenny Architects designed the comprehensive renovation completed in 2002, which included foundation stabilization, building envelope repairs, and interior renovations for classrooms, marine laboratories, admissions and financial aid offices, and a visitor center highlighting the Academy's maritime history.
The renovation preserved the character of the historic structure while adapting it for continued use by the Academy. At the completion of the project, the former Copeland Building was rededicated as Blinn Hall. The building was later renamed Flanagan Hall.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management recognized Keenan + Kenny Architects with a Design Excellence Award for the project.
